SSM Health Care Case History

The Situation
SSM Health Care – St. Louis, a network of seven Catholic hospitals, adopted a policy to eliminate outside agency staffing of nurses, pharmacists, radiologic and other technologists, radiation therapists, respiratory therapists and other health care professionals.  They sought to replace agency staffers through an internal campaign that engaged current employees in the recruitment of new employees and offered incentives for their efforts.  The system also recruited outside its hospitals at trade shows.

The Objectives
• Create enthusiastic involvement from employees at all levels.

• Motivate employees to participate in the search and recruitment process.

• Educate employees on the work benefits and facilitate the recruitment process.

• Reward employees well for their efforts.

The Strategy
• Launch the campaign with a 7-hospital road show (think Pep Rally).

• Provide flyers, recruitment kits and continuous communications to reinforce the campaign to employees.

• Brand all communications with a “Catch the Spirit” theme, using photos of real employees in the act of showing their spirit.

The Solution
The “Catch the Spirit” Recruitment Campaign
